Agribusiness consulting

Write it for someone who will read it in the truck.

Agribusiness consultants advise farms and food businesses on cost, succession, a new channel, or a season that did not pay. Use their units. Name the enterprise, the decision, and the season the advice has to land before.

The enterprise and the season

Write the enterprise as they would. The dairy. The packhouse. The direct sales of the apple crop. A generic 'agribusiness strategy' will not be read by someone who starts the day in the yard. Name the season or the date: before turnout, before the packhouse hires the summer crew, before the accountant closes the year they are about to repeat by habit.

Use their units in the outcome. Cents per litre, hours of casual labour, the share of the crop sold through the wholesaler they want to leave. A percentage improvement with no unit is a consulting sentence. It will not survive the kitchen table where the decision is actually made.

The decision, and who else must sit at the table

Succession, a new buyer, and a cost review are different rooms. Say who else has to be there: the son who would inherit, the spouse who keeps the books, the packhouse manager. A recommendation delivered only to the person who emailed you will be relitigated by the person who was not in the room. Put their attendance in the scope as a condition.

You are not their agronomist, their vet, or their accountant unless you are, and then say so. The deliverable is a decision memo in plain language, short enough to read between loads, with the numbers you were given labeled as theirs. You do not promise the next season's price.
